STATEMENT BY THE GARDA REPRESENTATIVE ASSOCIATION RE GARDA PAY  1.02.13

There have been a number of reports about proposed cuts to garda pay. This issue will be discussed by the central executive committee of the Garda Representative Association (GRA) on Monday 4th February.

Our member have told us, loudly and clearly, that they cannot accept any further reduction in garda pay nor can they accept a reduction in the terms and conditions of their employment contracts.

The government has presented a menu of cost cutting measures and changes to working practices that will be outlined at our central executive committee meeting on Monday.

GRA President John Parker said, "Gardaí are facing great financial hardship while continuing to provide great dedication and commitment to the community.

"Our members cannot pay their loans and mortgages. This is not about choice; pay cuts are not an option."
